AIDS groups are promoting awareness of the disease through National HIV Testing Day Friday.
The National Association of People with AIDS and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors have designated Friday as a day of awareness for HIV counseling and antibody testing.
With advances in the early treatment of the HIV infection, people need to know as soon as possible if they are infected. The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department offers confidential counseling and testing by appointment for persons at high risk of contracting HIV.
