SINCE CROWN CINEMA WILL BE TORN DOWN WHEN KMART EXPANDS, I WAS WONDERING IF ANY OTHER THEATERS IN TOWN WILL OFFER INEXPENSIVE SHOWS?

The former Crown Cinema, 3110 Iowa, is now known as the Cinema Twin after being bought by Hollywood Theaters.

The theater shows second-run movies for $1.25 except on Tuesdays, which has 50-cent movies. Lloyd Kirk, city manager of the Lawrence Hollywood Theaters, said although the Kmart expansion had been discussed, the theater company hadn't received notice.

"We haven't received an eviction notice. If and when that time rolls around, with certainty (Hollywood Theater officials) they will give consideration to the fact there won't be a discount movie theater in town," Kirk said.

Until that time, however, the Cinema Twin will continue to operate daily. No plans have been finalized on which, if any, Hollywood Theater complex will offer the discount movies.

Hollywood Theaters in town are Cinema Twin, Varsity, 1015 Mass., Hillcrest, 925 Iowa, and the new Southwind complex, 3433 Iowa.

A manager at Dickinson Cinema 6, 2339 South Iowa, said Dickinson would not show discount movies. There are also no plans to show discount movies at Liberty Hall, 644 Mass.
