Another day, another court appearance.
A Lawrence man who was released Thursday from Douglas County Jail was back in custody Friday after allegedly slugging and trying to rob a man in downtown Lawrence.
About 12:20 a.m. Friday, Ben C.T. Larose, 19, Lawrence, was chased by foot-patrol officers, who reportedly saw him punch a 26-year-old Topeka man in the head. Larose was caught in a nearby alley after a short chase.
The Topeka man told police two men had followed him for about a block, asked him for money then asked him for something to eat. The man declined to give them money but reportedly gave a burrito to one of the men, who again asked for money. According to police reports, the man said, "I'll roll you and take what you got," shoved him and hit him.
After tracking him down, officers found a crowbar in the Larose's possession. He was arrested for battery and interference with police duties.
Facing previous charges of disorderly conduct and assault after a court appearance Thursday, Larose appeared in court again on Friday.
