The Perry-Lecompton school board on Monday night did not accept a committee's recommendation to abandon schools in Williamstown and Grantville.
Under a proposal by the district's Long-Range Planning Advisory Task Force, classes for kindergarten through fourth grade would be held at Lecompton and Perry elementary schools; fifth through eighth grades would be held at Perry Middle School; and ninth through 12th grades would be held at Perry High School.
Currently, fifth- and sixth-graders attend grade schools at Williamstown and Grantville, and seventh- and eighth-graders only attend Perry Middle School.
The board accepted the task force's report but unanimously rejected its recommendation, Supt. Henry Murphy said.
"They wanted to keep their options open," he said.
The task force was formed to find ways of making classes, programs and facilities more efficient.
In other business, the board approved a 2.3 percent wage increase for administrative staff and classified employees, including food service employees, secretaries and custodial employees.
