Lawrence senior Nate Coffman has received the No. 1 seed at 130 pounds for the Class 6A wrestling regional at Topeka High on Saturday.
Coffman takes a 25-2 record into the regional. First-round action begins at 9 a.m., while championship matches are set for approximately 7:30 p.m.
The top four placers in each weight class advance to the state tournament Feb. 28-March 1 at Wichita's Kansas Coliseum.
"We think the bare minimum is seven," LHS coach Jim Beltch said of the number of qualifiers he expects from the Lions' contingent.
In addition to Coffman, Lawrence's regional lineup will include Ryan Smith (103), Scott Smith (119), Jesse Santaularia (125), Brett Larson (135), Chris Wheatley (140), Mike McAlhaney (145), Scott Kitsmiller (152), Nic Bandelier (160), Randy Clover (171), Karrigan Bork (189), Lee Cross (215) and Chad Fulks (275).
Santaularia, McAlhaney and Clover are No. 2 seeds.
Cross, who at 13-3 on the season is one of four No. 3 seeds for the Lions, was Lawrence's lone Sunflower League champion.
"It was a pleasant surprise," Cross said. "It was an elation to reach it."
The other teams at the regional are Kansas City Washington, Leavenworth, Olathe East, Olathe North, Olathe South, Shawnee Heights and Topeka.
Olathe East, the Sunflower League champion, and Shawnee Heights are expected to contend for the regional crown.
