SOS does not advocate ousting board members
Committee to Save Our Schools member Kurt Thurmaier understands the sentiment behind the proposed recall of school board members Mary Loveland, Carol Linhos and Maley Wilkins, but he doesn't sanction it.
"We're getting a lot of calls with people wanting to know if this is SOS," Thurmaier said. "No. We are no the group that's working on the recall."
Thurmaier urged voters who are unhappy with the outcome of the board's decision to close schools to vote for strong candidates in the February 25 primary and April 1 elections.
"If we elect three people who support neighborhood schools, with Kerry Altenbernd, there's a four-person majority, unlike the current school board," he said.
Thurmaier said the SOS leadership is working on campaigns for several candidates.
"There is no plan for SOS to endorse any candidates at this time," he said. "We are all working for our own favorite candidates."
