The Kansas National Education Assn. is sponsoring the second "A Teacher to Remember" student essay contest in honor of National Teacher Day. The deadline is March 1. Entries should be sent to KNEA Teacher Essay Contest, 715 West 10th St., Topeka 66612-1686.
Students are to write about a special public school teacher, either current or past, who made a positive impact on their lives. Essays for students in grades 3 through 8 are limited to 250 words, and essays for students in grades 9 through 12 are limited to 500 words.
A panel of teaching professionals will judge the essays. One winner each from grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 receives a $50 savings bond. The teacher the student commemorates receives a $50 gift certificate.
Entries must include the name, school and town of the teacher about whom the student is writing; and the name, address, grade and current teacher of the student submitting the essay.
Essays will not be returned, and winners will be announced prior to National Teacher Day, May 6.
