Minneapolis While in Lawrence for Thanksgiving, Minnesota football coach Glen Mason spoke with Golden Pat Ruel about the Gophers' offensive coordinator vacancy.
Ruel was Mason's offensive coordinator for nine years at Kansas, but he turned down Mason's invitation to join him at Minnesota because he thought he had a chance for the KU job.
"I didn't interview him," Mason told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, "but I did talk to Pat and he is interested in the job."
Ruel, who has spent the past year out of coaching and has spent his time working for an Internet recruiting service, confirmed Monday night that he was considering the Gophers.
"I am going to consider possibly going to Minnesota," Ruel said. "My greatest love is to coach. But I also am very conscious of what I want for my career right now. It really would help me to be in program that's a little farther along. On other hand, Minnesota has made some great strides so far. I don't have any clue what I going to do."
Ruel's wife, Marty, is KU's assistant vice chancellor for student affairs.
