Carole Williams of Lawrence was a guest speaker for a Moving Kids Safely seminar on transportation safety Thursday at Barney Allis Plaza in Kansas City, Mo.
Williams and her three daughters, Emily, Rachel and Ellen, escaped serious injury in June when a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville rear-ended Williams' 1994 Chevy Corsica.
"It was exciting," said Williams, about speaking at the seminar. "It was a honor for me, because ever since the accident, I take any opportunity I can to tell people about the importance of safety belts."
Two of Williams' daughters were in the back seat in child safety seats, while her oldest daughter Emily, 7, was in the front passenger seat.
Emily had to be extricated from the car, but she did not receive serious injury.
Williams said a story in the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper about the accident attracted the attention of the Kansas Safety Belt Commission and she was contacted to be a guest speaker for this year's seminar sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
