INDEPENDENCE, KAN. Funeral services for G. Hoyt Henry, 84, Independence, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Potts Chapel, Independence, with the Revs. Bill Sharples, Martin Nelms and Phil Adams officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Cave Springs Cemetery, Sarcoxie, Mo.
Mr. Henry died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He had been a longtime resident of Independence.
He was born March 7, 1912, in Sarcoxie, the son of Leroy Ethmer and Ella Pearl Downer Henry. He grew up and attended school in Sarcoxie, graduating in 1929 from Sarcoxie High School.
He worked as a dairy farmer in rural Sarcoxie. He was a member of Bible Holiness Church, Independence, where he served as a board member for the church and its school, Independence Bible School. He also served on the board of directors for Door of Hope Children's Home.
Mr. Henry married Helen Fieker on March 17, 1937, in Carthage, Mo. She survives of the home.
The couple moved to Independence in 1959, where Mr. Henry was self-employed as a carpenter. He worked in carpentry most of his life.
Other survivors include three sons, David, Thayer, Rodger, Lawrence, and George, Independence; seven daughters, Mary Sue Sharples, Sarcoxie, Doris Chrisenbery, Monett, Mo., Phyllis Darbro, El Paso, Tex., Alice Douglas, Fredonia, Karol May, Bartlesville, Okla., Janice Henry, Independence, and Joy Campbell, Olathe; a sister, Elizabeth Jacques, Independence, Mo.; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to Independence Bible School or to New Beginnings Enterprises, in care of Potts Chapel.
