The Breakfast Optimist Club is sponsoring an essay contest for all students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades and under the age of 18.
The contest is titled "Following a Dream Toward Freedom," and the local club will select a first-, second- and third-place winner. The first-place winner will be entered in the district contest, where it will be judged against other club-winning entries from the Kansas District. From there, winners will compete in the International Essay Contest, and winners will receive scholarships of up to $45,000.
Entries must be received by Dec. 16, 1996, and must be original.
Essay contest rules and entry forms are available at Lawrence High School or from Bob Broman, 1112 Somerset Cir., 749-3966.
