De Soto Development on the south end of town near Kansas Highway 10 is speeding along nicely, the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce president said.
Miami County National Bank opened its doors in mid-May, bringing full-service banking to the area of Lexington and Commerce.
"It's a welcomed addition," said Eldon W. Conyne, chamber president.
Conyne said the bank building featured a walk-in lobby, drive-thru lanes and an automatic teller machine.
It joins DeSoto State Bank downtown in offering full-service banking to the city, Conyne said.
In related news, Conyne said plans were proceeding on a Conoco gas station scheduled to open around Aug. 1 next door to the Miami County bank.
The station will house a Mr. Goodcents sandwich and pasta shop.
As work proceeds, chamber members will be gearing up for the chamber-sponsored Fourth of July celebration and will get set to welcome a railroad convention expected to draw 500 people to DeSoto.
"It's for old-time railroad buffs," Conyne said of the convention, scheduled for the last weekend in August.
