Douglas County sheriff's officers are investigating an incident in which a woman reported she was assaulted early Sunday by a naked man near Lecompton.

The 51-year-old woman from Poundridge, N.Y., told officers she was jogging about 7:45 a.m. Sunday on County Road 500E, about a mile west of Lecompton, when a black pickup truck drove past her.

Later, a naked man appeared from behind the trees, grabbed her and attempted to pull her into the vegetation, Sheriff Loren Anderson said.

The woman was able to get away and did not suffer serious physical injury.

She noticed that the black pickup was parked nearby, Anderson said. The woman did not know the suspect.

Anderson said it is unusual for such a crime to be reported in the area.

"We've had similar incidents before, but this is the first in a long time," Anderson said.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black, shoulder-length hair.

The attack is being investigated as an aggravated sexual battery.

Anyone with information about the incident may call Crime Stoppers, 864-TIPS (8477). Information leading to the arrest and conviction of criminals can lead to cash rewards. Callers may remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers does not use caller ID.
