Haskell Indian Nations University's commencement weekend continues today with several sporting events and the annual Spring Powwow.
Today's activities begin with registration for alumni, parents and friends at 8 a.m. at Stidham Union, followed by a 9 a.m. meeting of the National Haskell Alumni Assn. at Navarre Hall.
A 5-kilometer run will be held at 8 a.m. at the school's cross country course, and a softball tournament will be held at 8 a.m. at Lyon Park in North Lawrence. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at Haskell's Coffin Sports Complex.
The powwow, which will feature 45 Native American artist vendors and food booths, began Friday night at Haskell Stadium and continues through Sunday.
"Grand Entries" for the powwow, featuring dancers and musicians, are planned for 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Other activities today include a memorial service at 9 a.m. at the Haskell Cemetery; a seminar for alumni, parents and friends at 11 a.m. at the Stidham Union and gourd dancing, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Haskell Stadium.
The alumni golf tournament will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at Alvamar Public Golf Course.
