City officials plan to hire a new recycling specialist within a month.
Mollie Mangerich, the city's recycling operations supervisor, will select finalists from 32 applicants for the new position of waste reduction specialist.
Responsibilities and duties for the job -- which pays $22,838 to $33,925 a year -- will include developing educational programs, coordinating volunteers and writing grant proposals for the city's ongoing waste reduction efforts.
"I expect a lot," Mangerich said. "It's very fun to work here. It's go, go, go all the time."
The city is gearing up for a cardboard-recycling program and is looking for ways to increase participation in programs designed to reduce household hazardous waste.
The deadline for applications was Friday.
