Beautiful brides will merge with dashing grooms in a special Lawrence wedding celebration at the end of this month.
The gowns and tuxedos have been carefully chosen, and the plans put in order. There won't be any last-minute stress for the members of this wedding party, though, because all the players are synthetic.
More than 50 wedding dolls of all shapes and sizes will fill the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds buildings March 30 as part of the Lawrence area's Over the Rainbow Doll Club doll and toy show.
The theme for this year's show is "Love is in the Air."
"In the center we'll have a wedding cake surrounded by wedding dolls," said LouAnne Burgess, secretary of the Over the Rainbow Doll Club. "We'll also have a little display of dolls in a shower setting and other displays of the vignettes of getting ready for a wedding."
In addition to the wedding displays, Burgess said doll dealers will be on hand with doll antiques, collectables, furniture and clothing. She said there will be more than 100 tables at the show.
"It will cover the whole gambit," Burgess said. "People can buy everything from the doll of the year to an antique doll."
Show patrons can also bring their doll or toy-related items and have them appraised by experts, Burgess said. Experts in doll repair will also be on hand to help fix up those who need a little mending, Burgess said.
A variety of toys will also be on display at the show, including cars, stuffed animals, tractors and antique toys.
The show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Admission is charged.
