Three Journal-World staff members received awards in the National Federation of Press Women communications contest. Winners were recognized Saturday night at the NFPW conference in Charlotte, N.C.
Jan Biles, arts editor, received first-place awards in three editing categories for her work on The Mag, the J-W's weekly arts and entertainment magazine; the arts and entertainment section of the annual KU edition; and single pages dealing with the arts. She also received honorable mentions in the page layout and personal column writing categories.
Ann Gardner, editorial page editor, received a second-place award for an editorial she wrote concerning efforts to resurrect the debate over splitting Lawrence High School.
Gwyn Mellinger, county government reporter and food writer, received a second-place award in the ongoing news reporting category for her coverage of the South Lawrence Trafficway.
