A contribution fund for a family displaced from their home by a recent fire has been set up at a Lawrence bank.
Jo and Charles Collins and their two sons have been residing at the Travelodge Motel since Thursday, when a fire that began in their kitchen gutted most of their mobile home in Brookwood Mobile Home Community.
Contributions to the fund, called Operation Fire Rescue, can be made at any of the Lawrence Commerce Bank locations, said Melody McKenzie, a neighbor of the family who helped organize the fund.
"Neighbors and the community need to help each other," McKenzie said.
McKenzie said furniture, silverware, kitchen appliances, clothes, or other household items could also be donated to the family through the Stull Nurses, a home health care group. To make non-cash contributions, call 865-0126.
"Anything would be appreciated," McKenzie said.
