We noticed that the U.S. mailboxes that were west of 15th and Wakarusa were removed recently. Why was that, and where can we deposit our mail in that area?

"They were destroyed in an accident," said Postmaster Bill Reynolds. "There were three or four boxes there, and it was a hit-and-run accident. And it is amazing that a car could cause that much damage and still be drivable."

Reynolds said the mailboxes at the location continuously get damaged by vehicles.

"What we are trying to do is to relocate those boxes, and we don't have a location yet," Reynolds said. "We're going to try to find an off-street location for them out there."

Until a site is found for the boxes, Reynolds said, people may use the mailboxes in the Orchard Corners shopping area at 15th and Kasold.
