Ten illegal aliens from Mexico were deported late Monday or Tuesday after police discovered them living in an apartment in the 1800 block of West 26th.
The incident began Monday afternoon, when someone reported to police that a bicycle had been stolen from the area near Food-4-Less at 26th and Iowa.
A caller reported seeing a brown car driving away with suspects that may have taken the bike, said Sgt. Susan Hadl, police spokeswoman.
Police arrived and found the car and the bike near the apartment.
In talking to the suspects, police learned that the car had been stolen. They also learned of the aliens in the apartment.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service was called. INS agents picked up the aliens, all men, and took them for processing and deportation to Mexico, Hadl said.
A legal resident, Morales Ignacio Duarte, 34, Pomona, was arrested for possession of stolen property. He was being held Tuesday on $1,000 bond in the Douglas County Jail.
Hadl said the apartment was being rented by one of the men who was here illegally.
