A Lawrence legislator has been appointed to a legislative-electric industry task force that will study the effect of federal deregulation of electric marketing on Kansas consumers.
Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, will be among six legislators on the 23-member "Retail Wheeling Taskforce." The group will report to the Kansas Legislature on issues relating to competition in providing retail electric services.
The task force must present a preliminary report by Jan. 15, 1997, and a final report before Jan. 11, 1998.
The group was authorized during the 1996 legislative session. The new law requires the Kansas Corporation Commission to continue prohibiting competition for retail electric customers until July 1, 1999.
The task force will examine the effect that competition will have on service quality, pricing, guaranteed service and other issues, Sloan said.
