Manhattan Burial for Bertha May Christie Reed, 97, Manhattan, will be held at a future date in Meriden Cemetery, Meriden.
Mrs. Reed died Sunday, July 28, 1996, at St. Josephs Senior Community, Manhattan.
She was born Nov. 6, 1898, near Jamestown, the daughter of Emile Joseph and Delia Caraveau Christie.
She lived most of her life in Lawrence. She moved to Manhattan in 1984 and lived at St. Josephs Senior Community seven years.
Mrs. Reed had been a 4-H leader and was active in Extension programs. She worked for Terrill's Department Store, Chamney Dairy and the University of Kansas Press, all in Lawrence.
She married Addison Robert Reed on Jan. 18, 1916, in Topeka. He died Feb. 17, 1980. A granddaughter also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Delia Marcellus, Manhattan; three sons, A. Doyle Reed, Davis, Calif., Noel C. Reed, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Robert L. Reed, Bowling Green, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reed willed her body to the Kansas University Medical Center.
A memorial fund has been established for the St. Josephs Senior Community. Memorials may be sent in care of Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan 66502, which is handling arrangements.
