Thelma Jane Howe

Services for Thelma Jane Howe, 91, Lawrence, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Brady officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa.

Mrs. Howe died Monday, Jan. 29, 1996, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 29, 1905, in Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Byron and Harriet Centennial Thomas Acton.

Mrs. Howe, who had lived in Lawrence since 1952, was a homemaker. She grew up in Dunlap, Iowa, and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught for two years in Castana, Iowa, and a year in Dunlap.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Dunlap and the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.

She married Clifford F. Howe on April 20, 1928, in Montezuma, Iowa. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, David James Howe, Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters, Janice Howe Ripley, Lawrence, and Joan Bilderback, Woodstock, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. They may be sent in care of the funeral home.
