A Baker University student received national recognition recently when she was included in USA Today's list of the nation's best students.

Dawn Gardner, a biology major from Shreveport, La., was among 120 college undergraduates honored last week by the national newspaper.

The Baker senior was chosen for the list by a panel of educators which based its selections on academic records, leadership and academic or intellectual projects.

Gardner, a winner of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, interned for six months at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, where she studied prairie plants and grasses.

Baker is a four-year liberal arts college based in Baldwin, about 15 miles south of Lawrence.
