Lawrence police officers inspect the car of a driver who hit a stoplight control box at 19th and Haskell Thursday night after leading police on a two-minute chase. Benjamin Ming, 18, Lawrence, was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of operating under the influence, attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while suspended and driving with no insurance. He was being held on $1,300 bond. Police at 8:41 p.m. spotted a Subaru that allegedly ran a red light at Ninth and Emery Road. The car then headed east on Ninth Street, crossing the downtown area before heading south on Delaware. The vehicle then went east on 14th and south on Haskell before striking the traffic signal control box. There were no injuries. Ming allegedly ran several stop signs and red lights, police said. Several cans of beer were found in the Subaru.
