Staff physician Randall W. Rock has been named the new chief of staff for Watkins Memorial Health Center.
James Strobl, director of student health services made the announcement Monday. Rock's appointment became effective Dec. 2. He replaces Dr. Charles Yockey, who resigned Sept. 13 to accept a position with a Humana Health Care clinic in Kansas City, Mo. Yockey will remain at Watkins until Dec. 30.
Rock, who graduated from Kansas University in 1979 and the Kansas University Medical Center in 1983, has been on the Watkins staff since 1991. Before coming to Watkins he was a family physician with Ottawa Family Physicians.
"I enjoy patient care and the direct one-on-one delivery of health care, but I consider this position a professional challenge," Rock said. "I'm excited about the possibilities for improved services as we prepare to move our quality staff into the renovated Watkins."
The clinic is in the process of building a 20,000-square-foot addition and renovating the existing 60,000 square-foot facility.
Rock and his wife Jane Rock have three children; Alex, 10, Elise, 8 and Adam, 6. Jane Rock is an educator in the Ottawa school system.
