Douglas County Democratic Party Chairman Forrest Swall said Thursday he is in the process of notifying county and state election officials he has formally withdrawn as a candidate for the Kansas House 46th District seat.
Swall, who held the seat for two years before losing it in 1994 to Republican Tom Sloan, had filed as a place holder in hopes of finding a Democratic challenger for Sloan.
Swall said two Democrats have expressed interest in running for the seat, but no one has come forward publicly.
He said if someone does, a meeting will be called of the Democrats who hold precinct posts in the 45th District to elect a Democratic candidate. A meeting might be called within 10 days, although it "is possible" Sloan will be unchallenged, he said.
