MUSEUM EXTENDS HOURS FOR CIVIL WAR DAYS

The Watkins Community Museum of History will be open evenings today and Wednesday as part of Civil War Days this week.

The museum will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The museum closes at 4 p.m. It will reopen during the evening hours today and Wednesday.

A permanent exhibit of William Quantrill's raid on Lawrence is on display at the museum.

On Wednesday, walking tours of Quantrill's raid sites starting in front of the museum will be held at 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Steve Jansen, director of the museum, will give the tours.

Also, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the lower level of the museum, Jansen will give a talk and slide show on the raid.
