Services for Floyd Elmer Heffner, 100, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Worden United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Worden Cemetery.
Mr. Heffner died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at Sterling Heights nursing home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1895, on a farm north of Worden, the son of David and Lydia Schwartz Heffner.
He farmed in the Worden area until 1953 when he moved to Lawrence and became one of the first custodians at the new Lawrence High School, where he worked for 17 years.
He attended Colyer Grade School, graduating from the eighth grade. He served on the Colyer school board and the trustee board of the Worden United Methodist Church, where in 1932 he helped build the present church. He joined the church in 1912, and was its oldest and longest member.
He married Vergie Ellen Hoffman on Feb. 24, 1932, at the old Worden parsonage. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Ruby Armstrong, Baldwin; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary where the family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Worden United Methodist Church or Hospice of Douglas County. They may be sent in care of the mortuary.
