Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Police are investigating a burglary that occurred about 5 a.m. Monday at a business in the 2400 block of Iowa. Police were called to the business when a glass panel was broken, setting off an alarm. Would-be thieves targeted a display inside the business and took more than $1,500 worth of stereo equipment, which was found soon after stacked at the bottom of a tall, wood fence nearby.
  • A 14-karat gold ring with a .8-karat diamond valued on a police report at $2,000 was taken between 1 p.m. July 28 and 1 p.m. July 29 after being lost somewhere in the city, Lawrence police reported Monday.

Police report

  • Police are investigating three related reports of criminal damage. According to police reports, three vehicles were sprayed with green paint between 9 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. Friday in an area between the 1000 and 1200 blocks of 27th and 28th streets. The owners of a 1992 Volkswagen Golf, a 1994 Chevrolet Nova and a 1984 GMC truck each reported damage amounts of $1,500. The paint apparently did not resemble letters nor did it have any "symbolic significance," police spokeswoman Sgt. Susan Hadl said.
