FIRE DEPARTMENTS RECEIVE STATE FUNDS

Several area firefighter associations will receive thousands of dollars as part of an annual contribution from the Kansas Insurance Commissioners Office.

A record $4.5 million will be distributed to 560 firefighter relief associations representing more than 14,000 active and retired firefighters across the state.

The payments are a major part of an annual distribution from the Firefighters Relief Tax Fund administered by the Kansas Insurance Department and supported by an annual 2 percent tax on fire and lightning insurance sold in Kansas.

Area fire associations and the amount donated to each are: Lawrence, $102,491; Baldwin, $4,010; Eudora, $3,373; Wakarusa Township, $1,861; Lecompton Township, $2,334; Palmyra Township, $5,127; Eudora Township, $3,696; Willow Springs $3,544; Ottawa, $15,656; Wellsville, $3,246; Tonganoxie, $4,060; Oskaloosa Township, $3,436; Perry, $2,398; McLouth, $2,839.
