Memorial services for Leila M. Torneden, 72, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Cremation is planned.

Mrs. Torneden died Tuesday, April 10, 1996, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Bonner Springs, the daughter of Jerold W. and Edna Minnie Luckan Kindred.

She attended grade school in Fall Leaf and graduated from Eudora High School. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Torneden was raised by her grandmother Minnie Luckan on the family farm in Fall Leaf. She worked at Hercules Powder Co. during World War II as a payroll clerk and stenographer. Photography, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren were her hobbies.

She was a member of the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 Auxiliary, Lawrence. She was active in the Girl Scouts and was a host to several international students.

She married William Eugene Torneden on June 7, 1941, in Ottawa. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, William Larry Torneden, Irving, Tex., and Roger Lee Torneden, Chicago; a daughter, Terry Lynn Torneden-Durgan, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the service Saturday.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. They may be sent in care of the funeral home.
