Ottawa An Ottawa man on Wednesday was charged with first-degree murder in Franklin County after he allegedly shot and killed his wife and then attempted suicide.
Richard O. Watts, 47, made a first appearance on the charge in Franklin County District Court.
He is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Colleen Margarett Watts, 56, in the abdomen with a handgun during a domestic dispute Monday night at the couple's Ottawa home.
Authorities found Richard Watts with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He was treated at Ransom Memorial Hospital and then taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he remains on $300,000 bond.
Watts' next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, when a preliminary hearing may be scheduled.
