Mayor Bob Moody has interviewed 25 candidates for seats on the Lawrence Memorial Hospital board, but he still hasn't announced who will fill a vacancy or if he's going to reappoint two members or replace them.
One seat will become vacant Sunday. Sidney Garrett, president of Brown Cargo Van Inc., a Lawrence truck body manufacturer, and an LMH board member since 1989, has resigned two years before her second term expires to devote more time to the business.
Meanwhile, two first-term board seats, held by Stephen Craig and Don Johnston, expire Saturday. Moody is considering replacing them -- a break from traditional reappointments for second terms.
Johnston and Craig will remain board members until they are reappointed or replaced, said David Corliss, the city's director of legal services.
"One week does not make or break these appointments," Moody said. "Or two weeks, or three weeks. I'm concerned about what's in the best long-term interest of the hospital."
