The colors of fall will splash across DeSoto this weekend during the city's annual celebration.
DeSoto High School students spent Thursday morning painting merchants' windows in preparation for DeSoto Days, which kicks off Saturday.
Mary Payne, who heads the event's organizing committee, said most city merchants would display painted windows during the event. Artwork and welcome signs created by DeSoto residents will decorate utility poles and public areas throughout town.
DeSoto Days begins with a children's parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, featuring prizes for best-decorated bicycle and best costume in two divisions.
Little Miss DeSoto and Little Mr. DeSoto will be selected during the event, which also features an array of crafts booths, concession stands and games.
Entertainment will be featured throughout the day. Country and western bands, a banjo band and a storyteller are among the attractions, Payne said.
A street dance caps off the day.
Other DeSoto Days events include an apple bakeoff and a golf tournament on Sunday.
