Jury deliberations are to begin today in the trial of a Lawrence man charged with trying to torch a car in South Lawrence.
Michael E. Vick, 21, is charged with conspiracy to commit arson and attempted arson in connection with a May 12 incident in the Easy Living Mobile Home Park on South Iowa.
A police report indicates that a 40-ounce bottle filled with gasoline and containing a wick was thrown at the parked vehicle. Although the bottle hit the vehicle, it bounced off and hit the ground before it broke and erupted into flames.
Vick's trial opened Wednesday in Douglas County District Court. Testimony in the case was completed Wednesday afternoon.
Late last month, Vick was convicted of attempting to kill a Lawrence man early May 12 by shooting into the car the man was driving near 25th and Louisiana. Although several bullets struck the car, the man suffered only minor injuries from flying glass.
Vick is awaiting sentencing on attempted second-degree murder and other charges stemming from the shooting.
