A Friday evening fire in southwest Lawrence damaged a duplex and destroyed a resident's car.
Deion Jones, 26, had parked his Chevy S-10 truck in the garage of his duplex at 3219 Rainier, then left with friends and returned later to find his truck and garage on fire shortly before 6 p.m.
Battalion Chief Dan Morrow said the fire destroyed the vehicle and damaged the duplex's attic and garage. Jones' duplex and the adjacent one also had smoke damage, Morrow said.
Investigators hadn't determined the cause of the fire, but they said it originated in the garage where Jones' truck was parked. Morrow said the amount of damage was unknown as of late Friday.
Jones said his truck was insured, but he didn't have renter's insurance on the contents of his duplex.
The building is owned by Mary Lou Miller.
