Services for Alfred E. Howard, 79, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the Rev. William Dulin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Howard died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 1995, at his home.
He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Lakeview, the son of William and Gertrude Howard.
He owned a carpet cleaning business in Lawrence and worked for New York Cleaners for many years. He was employed by Sunflower Ammunition Plant. He also worked for the Lawrence school district as a custodian at Hillcrest and Sunset schools, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Howard had been a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church since 1954.
He married Dorothy Jane Hill on Sept. 1, 1942. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert A. and Phillip D., both of Lawrence; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Alfred W. and Eugene; and two daughters, Dorothea Howard and Sherriece Newman.
