Lawrence firefighters would receive benefits equal to fellow city employees next year under an agreement up for approval Tuesday night.
Lawrence city commissioners will consider signing onto an agreement with the International Association of Firefighters Local 1596, which represents Lawrence firefighters.
The agreement would void the final year of the existing two-year agreement and replace it with a new two-year version.
- Pay: Firefighters would receive a 3 percent "wage adjustment" in January. They would receive the same raise again in 1997, unless another group of city employees received a higher rate. In that case, firefighters would receive the higher rate.
- Longevity: Bonus pay for longtime employment would increase from 20 to 25 years, capping out at $1,040 a year.
- Insurance: Life insurance coverage will increase to $20,000 a year for each firefighter. Dental insurance also will be added, paid in full by the city (dependents would be eligible for 50 percent coverage).
- Other: Sick leave and shoe allowances also would increase.
