Ottawa A Feb. 13 trial has been set for a 16-year-old Topeka boy accused of killing an Ottawa teen-ager in September.
The trial date was set during a hearing Monday for Nathan Earwood, who is charged with second-degree murder and two other felonies. Earwood has been ordered to stand trial as an adult in the Sept. 24 shooting death of Stephanie Perez.
A hearing to discuss pre-trial motions in Earwood's case has been set for Dec. 15.
Prosecutors allege Earwood was one of nine teen-agers who went to a southeast Ottawa apartment to fight with Stephanie's brothers, whom the teens considered rival gang members.
One of the teens testified during a preliminary hearing for Earwood last week that he saw Earwood fire a .22-caliber pistol several times at a group of people outside the apartment.
Stephanie died after being struck in the chest with a .22 slug. Authorities described her as an innocent bystander.
