With flu season a few weeks off, there's still time to get a shot that offers some protection against influenza viruses.

Flu shots are recommended for seniors and people with chronic health problems. Many private physicians offer the shot. The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department offers flu shots for $7. No one is denied a shot because of inability to pay. People with Medicare Part B receive the shot for free. The shot isn't given to people who are allergic to eggs.

The shots are available:

  • Weekdays at the health department's main clinic, 336 Mo.
  • 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at Babcock Place, 1700 Mass.
  • At the department's regularly scheduled monthly immunization and senior health clinics in Lawrence, Baldwin, Lecompton and Eudora.

For clinic hours and locations, call 843-0721.
