The Tonganoxie City Council gave initial approval Monday night to annex eight tracts of land into the city.
Land owners will receive letters explaining the annexation. The city has the right to annex any property that is not used solely for agricultural purposes.
"The goal is to fix our jagged teeth everywhere," City Administrator C. Edward Young said. "We are not going after land that is solely agricultural ... we do have an obligation to provide water and sewer lines to those properties."
The council members also discussed extending water services to the baseball fields at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. Council members voted to absorb the cost of extending the water service from the city water main to the ball fields.
