The young pups of Baldwin took a big bite out of the competition at the Class 4A state track meet. The Bulldog girls finished second on Saturday at Cessna Stadium. Topeka Hayden clipped the Bulldogs by just one point, 39-38.

Cessna Stadium finally treated Garrett Attig well. Attig won the pole vault at the Kansas state high school track meet on Saturday in Wichita. The junior won with a height of 15-6.

Does the city of Lawrence or Douglas County have in place any special requirements for builders who want to build on fill dirt or on hillsides that would help to prevent what happened to the two homes in Johnson County that slid down the hill? Both the city and county have building codes that require soil testing at the site of unstable soil.

Services for Della J. Hamilton, 74, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Second Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Winn Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hamilton died Thursday, May 25, 1995, at her home.

What is the status on creating a left-turn lane on Iowa Street at Stratford Road and University Drive? “As far as I know, that’s a dead issue right now,” said George Williams, the city’s public works director. At one time, the city considered a project that would include 75 percent funding from the state. But the decision was made not to proceed with it.

Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery near Pleasant Grove. Mrs. Churchbaugh died Saturday, May 27, 1995, at Orchard Lane Nursing Facility, Baldwin.
