Why is Lawrence Athletic Club allowed to have customers park on the grass beyond its paved parking area? Is this in violation of its site plan?

The club is not permitted to allow customers to park on the grass beyond its paved parking area, said Gene Shaughnessy, the city's chief building inspector. And no, it's not a violation of the club's site plan.

Parking on an unimproved surface, however, is a violation of the city code. The parking responsibility belongs to the owner of the car, not the club.

Police recently cited a driver for parking on a grass area near the club, Shaughnessy said.
