A 25-year-old Lawrence man escaped serious injury early this morning when several shots were fired into his vehicle as he was driving near 25th and Louisiana.
Police said two suspects, a 20-year-old Lawrence man and a 16-year-old Lawrence boy, were apprehended by police about 2:15 a.m. today in the 2500 block of Cimarron. Both remained in custody this morning, the adult in the Douglas County Jail and the juvenile in the Northeast Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center, in connection with several charges, including criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Bullets shattered the rear window of the victim's 1989 Chrysler and damaged the vehicle's interior, causing an estimated $2,500 damage.
The victim suffered a small scratch on his face. Police were unsure whether he was grazed by a bullet or cut by flying glass.
Police said the suspects also are suspected of throwing a Molotov cocktail at a vehicle parked in 3300 block of Iowa shortly before 1 a.m. today.
