Police said this morning they are following some leads but need additional information about an aggravated burglary Wednesday night in which two Lawrence residents were confronted and restrained by two unknown intruders.
Police Sgt. Rick Nickell said the incident in the 500 block of Canyon Drive has been added to a list of cases being investigated by a 10-member burglary task force of police patrol officers and detectives.
The task force was organized Monday in response to a recent increase in burglaries in the city. The specific number of cases being investigated was unavailable.
At least three of the cases under investigation are believed to have occurred sometime Wednesday night or early Thursday morning at residences in northwest Lawrence, specifically the Canyon Drive residence, a residence in the 200 block of Providence and one in the 2500 block of Princeton.
Entry to the residences on Providence and Princeton was made by kicking in doors.
Police this morning refused to release any additional information about the aggravated burglary on Canyon Drive.
Earlier information indicated the residents were awakened by a noise and bound by two black male suspects who then stole an unknown amount of cash and jewelry.
Anyone with information about any of the burglaries is asked to call either the police department's detective division at 832-7530, or Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.
