sounds throughout county
Douglas County's tornado warning system functioned without a hitch Thursday during a statewide National Weather Service drill.
Paula Phillips, Douglas County's emergency preparedness coordinator, said the NWS issued a mock tornado watch at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, followed by staggered warnings across the state.
When Douglas County received its warning at 1:10 p.m., all 32 of the county's outdoor sirens sounded. Warnings also were broadcast using the override arrangement with Sunflower Cablevision and on voice-alert radios in schools, industrial plants and other high-population locations.
