What July 4 festivities are planned in Lawrence? Will there be a parade and fireworks? When are fireworks legal?
The Lawrence Jaycees are planning a day of activities on July 4 at Burcham Park, Second and Indiana streets. The park will open to the public at 11 a.m. with no admission charge. The day's activities will include music, arts and crafts booths, food booths and the annual fireworks show. Agencies of the United Way of Douglas County will provide family activities. No parade is planned.
The fireworks show, which begins at dusk, features $9,000 worth of fireworks, which is $3,000 more than last year's show.
Fireworks are legal in Lawrence from 7 am. to 10 p.m. on July 2 and 3 and from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4.
