Kansas University and Lawrence will be well-represented this week during the Miss Kansas Scholarship Pageant in Pratt.
Five KU students are among the 20 contestants competing for the title of Miss Kansas, which will be awarded at the conclusion of the pageant Saturday night. And two of those five are from Lawrence.
The contestants arrived on Sunday in Pratt. Today, they were to be evaluated by the pageant's five judges. On Wednesday and Thursday, they will compete in talent and evening gown/swimsuit events.
The top 10 finalists will be announced on Saturday and they will repeat the talent and evening gown/swimsuit events during Saturday night's final performance. All events take place on the campus of Pratt Community College.
The following KU students are competing in the pageant: Nicole Wasson, Lenexa, Miss Crimson and Blue; Barbara JoAnn Smith, Lawrence, Miss Johnson County; Randi Johnson, Lawrence, Miss KU-Lawrence; Jennifer Rolleg, Overland Park, Miss Queen of the Prairie; and Cari Allyn Kennedy, Dodge City, Miss Wheat Capital.
In addition to earning the opportunity to represent Kansas in the Miss America Pageant in September in Atlantic City, N.J., the new Miss Kansas will receive a number of scholarships and prizes. All other contestants also will receive scholarships.
