in Sunday accident

A Topeka woman was killed Sunday night in a one-vehicle accident just west of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 40, according to a dispatcher for the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Lillian R. Netherland, 40, was killed when she was ejected from her pickup truck about 7:20 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of U.S. 40 and Douglas County Road 13, the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher said Netherland, who was alone in in her 1971 truck, was driving east on U.S. 40 when she dropped off the right edge of the highway, overcorrected, came back onto the roadway, traveled left of center then went off the highway.

The pickup truck then rolled several times down the south embankment and Netherland, who was not wearing a safety belt, was ejected, the dispatcher said.

No other information was available about the accident this morning, the dispatcher said.
